My 2019 Reading List

When I wrote down my 2019 goals, in February or March time frame, I set a goal to read between 5 to 7 books by the end of the year. I know, some people read 50+ books in a year and I'm sure I will get there one day!

Prior to me setting my goals, I didn't read much, and I wanted to change this about myself. I wanted to build a consistent reading habit that I can stick with, so I started by setting reading goals that was easily attainable for me. I would read in the morning before I started my day, before I go to bed, or I would dedicate an entire day (usually Sundays) to read at a cozy restaurant and or hotel lobby drinking my tea or wine. Lazy holidays were the best time to read multiple books of different genres which I really enjoyed.

By end of 2019 I read 10 books, 3 books over my goal!

Most importantly, in order to cultivate my reading habit, I only read books that intrigued my curiosity and I know that I would enjoy. I love reading autobiographies of successful entrepreneurs. I admire their grit, tenacity and determination – I get inspired to do more, to learn more, to break old habits and create new good habits. I also enjoy reading self-help and business books.

Below are the 8 books I recommend for your 2020 reading list

1. Elon Musk - The book captures the life and achievements of South African entrepreneur and innovator, Elon Musk, the brain behind series of successful enterprises such as PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX and Solarcity.

2. Shoe Dog - is an inspirational story of overcoming challenges to grow a company as fast as possible. You'll learn real-world business lessons that only Nike's founder can teach you. Phil Knight is brutally honest about the extreme difficulties they had to overcome. Today everyone knows Nike.

4. 10% Happier - is a book about Dan Harris and his discovery of meditation. He takes us through his personal journey, starting with his addiction to the rush of adrenaline from covering live news events in dangerous locations to his subsequent breakdown on live TV as a news anchor.

5. Manifest Now - Provides a step-by-step guide with tools, techniques, and proven strategies to raise your frequency and create the reality you want. This book is designed to guide you through the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of manifesting and creating all that your heart desires.

6. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*CK - The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience. Everything worthwhile in life is won through surmounting the associated negative experience.

7. Good to Great (Business Book) - To go from a good organization to a great one you need disciplined people, disciplined thought, and disciplined action. Disciplined people: means getting the right people and keeping them focused on excellence.
